Why, depsite that predictions that most of us will need some nursing care as we age, do people turn away from coverage when they are younger?
Hard To Plan Long Term
Well I think it is easier to plan for larger and more immediate goals. We need to save money for next years taxes, a trip to the denstis, or have some rainy day money set aside in case we get sick or injured. But it is much tougher to think in the long term about a potential need for coverage tha we hope never happens at all. And if it does happen, it seems like such a distant event it is hard to worry about it.

But when you are younger, private long term care insurance will cost less. Like any other form of individual health insurance, it will cost less and be easier to get for younger and healthier people. That is not to say that older people cannot find a policy, because many reasonably healthy seniors can still qualify for nursing home insurance.
