Make Your Jokes About Women Drivers!

All of the old jokes aside - because we know, of course, they are told by men – women may be safer drivers! Insurance companies certainly think so. They keep very careful statistics about which groups of drivers make the most car accident claims, and of those claims, which are more expensive to pay off. Even when you account for the fact that men drive more miles, women still make less accident claims per mile driven!

If men drive more, and have all the advantages of faster reflexes, etc., then how can women be better drivers? What about all of the jokes? Well, according to experts, there may be a couple of very simple reasons why women are involved in the minority of car accidents.

• Women Choose Safety Over Performance – Women may pick out safer cars, and cars with better safety features when they are deciding how to spend their automobile dollars. They may also choose fuel economy over performance, which means they are not picking out sporty, high performance cars. Insurers calculate that these types of cars, and auto safety features, just lend themselves to being involved in less accidents. And when accidents do occur, the safety features tend to minimize damage to the car and to the people in the cars! So women may also take advantage of more auto insurance discounts than men do.
• Women may be more careful behind the wheel – Men may be more agressive, and also to take more risks. Women are willing to allow a more agressive driver to get ahead of them, and they realize that they will not really be delayed long if they are second in line at the stop sign, instead of first in line! More careful and prudent driving can minimize accidents.

Of course, insurers use a variety of different things to calculate insurance premiums, but being a female and driving a safer car are very important. Of course, having a clean driving history will work in your favor too.
