Do You Heart NYC, But Cannot Afford To Sleep There?

My family loves New York, but finding a reasonable hotel can be a big challenge. If I have to spend $300 a night, or more, just to find a place to sleep, that is really going to shorten my stay. But what if I told you that it was possible to find a room for less than $100 a night? That would certainly make a few days in NYC more affordable!

Bed And Breakfasts

The city actually hosts a lot of bed and breakfast that are in converted homes with really attractive rates. We found some that start at $80 a night. Some actually do offer breakfast, while some will just start you off with coffee. But at $80 a night, you can still afford to eat your meals someplace else. I think it is fun to enjoy New York City by staying in an older home for the night.

Hotel Chains

Believe it our not, Houston St has a Howard Johnson’s express with rates that start at $109 a night. That is actually a normal price for a downtown motel in any major city. I couldn’t really find much better rates in San Antonio or Atlanta when I wanted to stay near the heart of the city.

Hostels

I might not try this with kids, but if you really need to save your pennies, and don’t really care about amenities beyond a clean bed and bathroom (that you may have to share), look into NYC hostels. I have seen them go for $39 a night.

Plan Ahead!

As with almost anything else about NYC, if you want to make sure that a budget friendly room is waiting for you, try to plan ahead. When the word gets out about affordable places to sleep in the big apple, they tend to fill up. You can also find some deals on some of the fancier hotels, and may be able to snag a $300 room for $150 if you can book in advance.
