Do You Need a Teenage Birthday Party Idea?
Remember when your kids were little, and just about any idea for a birthday part was exciting for them? We went through the picnics in the park, local pizza and video arcades, roller rinks, and swimming pools. As I was planning birthday parties for my kids, when they were young, I never imagined that this detail of their lives would get so much harder as they got a little older!
But I polled some experts (teens), and here were some favorites:
- A Night In A Hotel with a Pool. This actually goes over very well, especially in the winter when teens may not have access to an indoor pool. Some hotels have a larger suite that can hold half a dozen teeny boppers, while some may allow you to have adjoining rooms. The kids can stay up half the night watching movies, enjoy the pool or health club, and basically, have a big slumber party! The positive side of this type of party is that you do not have to clean up your own house or worry about finding beds for everybody!
- Day At The Mall – What do teens, especially girls, love more than the mall? You may have to limit the number of friends if you need to stick to a budget, but you can treat everybody to lunch while they have the run of the stores. Some people add a mall scavenger hunt to the mall day. You can think of a list of items that can be found in the mall for free like napkins from the food court, credit card applications, old receipts, business cards, and sales fliers!
- Eat Out – Group eating situations, like Japanese steak houses where they cook at the table, are great fun. Again, these can get expensive so you may need to limit the number of guests. However, you can probably drop your child, and a few friends off, and then pick them up in a couple of hours to take care of the check.
- Movie Party – Let your child pick out a favorite movie, and then invite a group of friends over to watch it. This budget friendly party can include snacks or pizza, plus – of course, cake and ice cream!
- Bowling or roller skating are still popular with teens. If your town has an indoor ice skating rink, that may be a fun diversion, especially if you live in a warmer climate.
- And of course, the big idea is having everbody just go out for pizza and arcade games like they used too. This idea is usually fairly budget friendly, but also a fun time that everybody enjoys.
Give your teen a list of choices for ways to celebrate their birthday, and then let them choose. As my kids have gotten over, I have presented them with a budget that can be divided between celebrating their birthday and getting a present. They tend to choose to limit the party expense so they can enjoy a better present, but maybe that’s just my kids!
