Did you know there are actually many different tones of a dog’s bark. Nicholas Dodman, B.V.M.S., professor in the Department of Surgery and director of the Behavior Clinic at Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine says you can learn “bark speak.” Here is glossary of “bark.”
Whining between barks - Your dog may be telling you he’s frightened or doesn’t want you to leave the house.
Barking for a long time with brief pauses between identical woofs – If your dog is doing this type of barking, it means he is probably bored.
Exuberant bark – A dog barking exuberantly is telling you that he wants to plays.
Dr. Dodman says that eventually you could get to know what your pet needs just by hearing him. If you have a problem with a barking dog or are concerned with stopping neighbors dogs from barking please see our post on Excessive Barking at Naturesway4pets.com
