Would You Like To Generate Your Own Electric Power?
Who doesn’t like the idea of generating their own power from home? I think almost everybody I know has flirted with the idea of getting a home power system that uses free, clean, and renewable power from the wind or sun to suppplement or replace their on-grid electricity. Another advantage of home power systems is that excess energy can actually be sold back to the grid. Imagine that you could generate your own power, and you could even be paid to generate clean, renewable power for your neighbors! In fact, your neighbors will probably be so impressed that they will want to pay you to set up the same sort of system for them!
You can make homemade wind and solar power!
Why Don’t We Generate Sun or Wind Power At Home?
So why doesn’t everybody do this? In fact, home solar and wind power is pretty rare. As a recent survivor of the massive power outages after awful hurricane Ike I could hardly sleep because of the noise from all of the gas powered generators in my neighborhood. Yet after the hurricane, we enjoyed some great weather, where alternative energy could have been used if anybody had a system!
High Cost Commercial Solar or Wind Power
I think the main problem is that commercial systems have a fairly high startup cost. They systems are also expensive to install and people do not believe they could do it themselves. So in order to start saving money and doing the right thing, a homeowner must first spend thousands of dollars to get started. Even though this would be money well spent, it is money that people may not have to spend, especially in our current economy.
Affordable HomeMade Solar and Wind Systems
But you do not have to fear do it yourself plans for making solar and wind systems. Many non-professionals have followed these plans and gotten started with their own home system for less than $200! Now it would not take very long to recoup that much money if we could shave money off an electric bill!
Trust me, when your friends, family, and neighbors see your solar cells or rooftop windmill, they will all want one too! If you live in a neighborhood with deed restrictions, you may want to get your project cleared first. I have found that, in the case of neighborhood associations, it is better to ask for permission first. However, once you describe your project, the board members are likely to want you to build them one too!
Profit From Home Energy Systems
You can save money with home energy systems, but I can think of a lot of ways you can profit from a home energy system.
You can sell power back to the grid, meaning the electric company will pay you for excess power. You do not have to use it or lose it, but can sell what you do not use.
You can build and install solar or wind energy systems in your town. When your neighbors, friends, and family see how smart you are, they are going to want you to help them too!
You can hold classes teaching others how to make home energy systems. Lots of people like do-it-yourself projects, and this would be a perfect one It is affordable, satisfying, and it makes and saves money!
I’m sure you can think of some more ideas, but I think it is great to find a way to save money, make money, and help the environment all at the same time!
