Cheap Solutions for Cleaning Stove Tops
I spend so much time cleaning the top of my stove. I wish they made a self-cleaning stove top but unfortunately it hasn’t been invented yet. Well, if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on cleaning products for your stove top take some hints from that Haley guy. Graham and Rosemary Haley have some great hints in their book Haley’s Cleaning Hints Here are a few of them for cleaning your stove top:
Stubborn stains – Use a paste of baking soda and water. Apply paste to stained area, leave on for 5 to 10 minutes, then wipe off with a soft cloth. Rinse with a white vinegar and water solution. An alternate solution is to mix equal parts warm water and ammonia. Apply, wait 30 seconds and then rub as necessary.
Shine your stove top - Use rubbing alcohol to shine your stove top.
Clean chrome burner trim rings - Apply a paste of vinegar and cream of tartar. Rub well.
Clean Burner Drip Pans – For moderately dirty drip pans simply wash them in the dishwasher. For really stubborn stains, which are the only kind I seem to have on my burner drip pans, place an ammonia soaked cloth in the pan and leave it overnight. Wash off the next day with dish soap and water. WARNING – Ammonia does not smell good!!
The Haley’s also have some good tips for cleaning ovens. Even if you have a self-cleaning oven you may find them useful. Here they are:
Oven Spills – Sprinkle one part cinnamon and 6 parts table salt on spill. When the oven is cool, wipe up the mixture. The spill will be absorbed and the next time you turn on the oven, you won’t have that burnt food odor.
Oven Racks – Place your oven rack in a garbage bag and throw in an ammonia soaked cloth. Seal tightly and leave outside overnight. Wash down well with soap and water the next day.
Oven Window – To get rid of that brown stain, make a thick paste of water and baking soda. Coat the inside of the window, leave on for 10 or 15 minutes or until completely dry and the scour off with clean water.
