Baker is said to have invented them in the middle of a slump in candy sales after hearing the pop of wood in his fire. His sons made them popular by using them at events like the opening of new stores and businesses, marketing a much larger version toe the original tubes to families in the early 20th century. Today they are offered by several party supplies shops for most holidays and other momentous occasions in multiple countries in Europe.
