How To Party During Hard Luck Times

Hard Money Party Ideas

Sure the economy is sagging, and yes, experts tell us that we may have to adjust our standard of living for quite awhile. But we still want to have a good time with our friends and family. So how can you still have some fun without spending a lot of money? We have a few well tested ideas that cost very litte, but have created great memories of having good times with our kids and friends and our kids friends. :)

Home Movie Nights – We got this great home movie night idea from FrugalPig.com. It is simple enough to rent a movie that will appeal to your audience, make a batch of popcorn, get a few liters of soda, and then spread some blankets on the floor for kids and extra guests. We have had great fun watching classics like ET or the older Star Wars movies, or some of the newer movies that have just hit the DVD market.

You can incorporate a causual dinner menu with movie treats like nachos and hot dogs. If the expense of providing food for the group gets out of hand, do not hesitate to assign some pot luck contributions to your guests.  Dave can bring the sodas, the Anderson family can supply cheese, and Mrs. Jennings will probably not mind supplying a few packs of hot dog buns. In any case, the food and DVD rental for a dozen people should not cost more than $40.

This idea goes over well with guests of all ages. If you do have a mixed audience, you may be able to offer a kids movie in a bedroom, and an adult movie in the living room.

Family Games Night – The men can play poker in one room, while the ladies play canasta. Or it can be the other way around! Meanwhile, you can set up the electronic games system in the den for the kids. Or everybody can sit in the living room and play charades. However, you want to organize it, family game nights have become very popular as a way to spend time with the kids and friends. They are cheap and encourage socializing.

Again, snacks can be contributed by guests, and guests can also bring favorite games. to add variety. We like to make a brisket for a main dish, and also provide soft drinks. Our guests enjoy showing off their favorite desserts and side dishes. We spend about $20 on food, and end up having a great party and a feast with company!

You Can Still Have Fun WIth Less Money

Hard times do not mean we have to end our fun. We may have to scale back a bit, and we may have to ask our guests to chip in more. But people adapt, and people can still have fun!
