Hormones and Weight Loss
Do you feel like you have been doing everything right to try to lose weight but have not been successful? It is possible that the problem could be a hormonal one. To fix some of these hormone problems you don’t even have to take any pills. Read on to find out some of the common hormone imbalances that cause weight gain and some of cures:
Thyroid Levels - Hypothyroidism slows your metabolism down causing you to burn less calories. Have your doctor check your thyroid levels.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome - Sounds like this would be really rare but PCOS accounts for unexplained weight gain in 20 percent of women. It is an insulin resistance that is caused by abnormal secretion of a hormone by your ovaries. Again this would have to be something you would ask your doctor about.
Testosterone levels dropping - Levels of this hormone can fall in older men and postmenopausal women. Belly fat converts testosterone to estrogen. Less testosterone also means less muscle mass, which makes it harder to burn fat. Rebuild your muscle mass by doing resistance (weights or stretchy bands) exercise.
Growth Hormone Dips – This can decrease as you age or if you don’t sleep at least 90 minutes at a time, leading to weight gain. This may be why people who don’t sleep properly (those with sleep apnea) gain weight. For a natural cure, get plenty of sleep and exercise. If you do have a problem sleeping consult your doctor or a sleep clinic.
