Segregation In The 50′s And 60′s

The struggles against racism generally took root and became more vibrant in the 50’s and 60’s. Most African Americans were sidelined in all areas of economic, political or social growth. Whites were seen to be more superior and special, leading to segregation of all facilities such as means of transport, schools, restrooms, hotels, and residents and even in prisons. Segregation was highly seen in the 50’s and 60’s in terms of separating people according to different races, classes, or ethnic groups, in places and areas like schools, housing, and public or commercial facilities. Discrimination occurred to the African Americans who we residents of the states, as well as the Jewish community. Segregation was very common in all the states, with the colored people not mixing with the whites in areas of work, schools, residents, or in politics. This was regarded as the racial segregation and discrimination. Many events occurred in the 50’s and 60’s in response to segregation and discrimination of the African Americans. This paper brings out the major forms of segregation and discriminations that the African Americans faced during these two decades and the counter mechanisms and the rights they were fighting for, as well as some of the major civil rights movements formed and their achievements.
With the formation of NAACP(National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) a civil rights group in the 1909, it was not until the 1950’s that it became vocal and strong after the desegregation of Truman in the military and the African Americans involvement in the world war II (Soule, 2006 p.122). Many forms of segregation occurred in the decades mentioned with the whites enjoying what the blacks could not have access to. The schools were all different, hotels were all different, and the blacks were force to travel in their own separate busses (Black, 1987 p.67). A case in 1955 of Rosa Parks where she was arrested for sitting in a bus that was to be for the whites occurred. The NAACP was involved, where the buses got a 381 days boycott until the blacks were integrated. The common term used to refer to the African Americans was a Nigger or Negro. Those known to further the agenda against racial discrimination were; Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who led the Southern Christian Leadership Conference after being assassinated in 1968, Whitney Young, of the Urban League, Roy Wilkins who led the NAACP, and James Farmer who was the leader of C.O.R.E. (Congress of Racial Equality) (Severo, 1999 para.3). The African Americans were feeling left out by the ideas and actions of the whites who treated them as slaves, and inhuman. Other events included civil rights demonstrators assembling at the Lincoln memorial in May 1957 for prayer pilgrimage for freedom. In 1958 another protest occurred known as the youth march for integrated schools. All these protest among the blacks were to pressure the then government of President John F. Kennedy to address high levels of blacks’ unemployment, systematic disenfranchisement of many blacks, and racial discrimination (Severo, 1999 para.6). As described in the article 1950’s & 60’s, The Civil Rights Act of 1964 which banned discrimination in work places and public accommodations and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were passed, also passed included the Immigration and Nationality service act of 1965. The civil rights act aimed at the freedom of all citizens of America whichever race or color. Philip Randolph on May 1962 on behalf of movements like the Negro American Labor Council, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Congress of Racial Equality, and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, wrote a letter to the effect of the Lincoln memorial protest of 1963. In Aug. 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous ”I Have a Dream” speech as the final March on Washington, where he prophesied that a day would come where his fore sons were to judge not by their skin color, but their character. During the 1957 season for enrollment in to high school, whites protested the enrollment of nine African Americans in a school. This showed the state of segregation that was happening. In the case of Brown verses the board of education in 1954; the Supreme Court ruled that it was not constitutional for the state to run separate schools for the blacks and the whites (Russell, 1998 p.76). Any one who was seen to protect the process of justice was assassinated and the civil rights became more vocal. The segregation of the residents was seen in the south where areas of living for the blacks were in rural areas, while the blacks were absent in the north (Soule, & Peirce, 2007 p.74).

How To Know If Money is Fake

Let me start off by saying that counterfeit currency is not a huge problem in the US today, and most money is safe. In addition, changes to US currency made in 19996 made money much harder to print up.

But fake money does get passed off as real money, sometimes by unwitting people who did not know any better than to take the money themselves. In order to make sure you accept real US currency, and not bogus bills printed in somebody’s basement, here are some tips!

Tips on Detecting Fake Money.

Go by the look and feel. You handle enough currency to know the distinctive feel of US currency. If the money feels wrong to you , that is a good reason to suspect it. In addition, money is printed with very high quality ink and machines. It should not look fuzzy or blurry, but should be sharp and clear. If the money feels or looks wrong at your first glance, you probably need to check it!

Hold a bill up to a light. There is a plastic security thread right of the president’s picture, and further to the right you should see a watermark. In addition, larger bills that are $10 and above, should have color changing ink on the numbers. The numbers should turn from copper to green.

Suspect large bills printed before 1996 when these security features were not in place yet. Currency is constantly being replaced, and it is odd to see a bill, especially a large one, that is dated before 1996. It could happen, but it should raise a red flag in your mind.

If you are handed a suspect large bill, it may be time to say you do not accept cash for larger purchases, or you don’t take bills over $20. Now the person with the bogus cash could be an unwitting victim too, but that is no reason for you to take fake money.

You can always visit your bank if you suspect some currency, and have it checked there too.

Ben Bernanke Made Incorrect Diagnosis of the U.S. Economy

Ben Bernanke, the chairman of the United States Federal Reserve made a huge mistake in diagnosing the current economic crisis. As an old vanguard of the Great Depression school of thought, Mr. Bernanke sees an economic crisis as a result of deflation. Such view could impact significantly on the efforts to recover the economy from crisis. In fact, seeing the current inflationary recession as a contraction of the economy due to deflation could further fuel more economic turmoil.

In nominal terms, the U.S. economy is showing signs of deflation. More businesses and companies have been closing in the past months. Banks and investment houses have been forced to beg for additional liquidity to stay afloat. Unemployment is soaring and each month, the number of jobless Americans has been growing. Money traders on the other hand are adamant in investing more money in the market. Meanwhile, international demands and orders for American goods have been declining. As the economy contracts and the retail sector tumbles, domestic spending also shrunk. All these are elements of deflation which are custom made for the economic orientation of Mr. Ben Bernanke.

Mr. Ben Bernanke therefore diagnosed the economic crisis based on his economic orientation and incorrectly applied several solutions to counteract the seemingly short term deflation. So to curb, inflation or the increase in commodity prices, Mr. Bernanke through the U.S. Federal Reserve imposed a zero percent interest rate. The logic is to allow consumers to take advantage of the credit market to jumpstart the financial sector. To counteract the contraction of the business sector, the Fed started a shopping spree of toxic assets and bailing out insolvent banks, investment houses, and collapsing companies. And to cover decreasing domestic demands and pump up the retail and manufacturing sector, The Fed through the leadership of Mr. Bernanke started printing more dollars to infuse the economy with more cash.

However, such monetary and fiscal measures are utter suicide because the root cause of economic contraction is not deflation but inflation. The economy of the U.S. is overflowing with money. Such excessive supply of currency which does not correspond to the actual value of reserved gold could further trigger and accelerate inflation. As the Fed prints more money out of thin air, its real value in nominal terms has been greatly diminished. No wonder that the U.S. dollar has been trounced at the international money market. This means that even if America is brimming with dollars, the added cash flow will only serve to fuel the fire of inflation. In fact, instead of curbing the contraction, the Fed is leading the economy into a state of hyperinflation.

You should better be prepared for the onset of hyperinflation. All indicators point out to this possibility as the U.S. Federal Reserve continues pump more money into the already cash-saturated economy. And because the real value of the U.S. dollar is being eroded daily, there will come a time that its purchasing power could become worthless. This is hyperinflation and will signal the demise of American dominance in world economics.

Zimbabwe is a country where almost all citizens are billionaires. This sounds good, right? However, a loaf of bread in Zimbabwe costs more than 100 trillion Zimbabwe dollars so even if you have 100 billion Zimbabwe dollars there is no chance that you can eat a loaf of bread to soothe your hunger fangs. The U.S. Federal Reserve should learn from this hyperinflation by avoiding the temptation to print more paper money. Americans should also protect themselves by investing in silver stocks which hold the promise of becoming a prime currency in the near future.

The Zimbabwe experience is a classic example of hyperinflation. Such economic fiasco could ruin not just the national economy but the livelihood of everyone. The hyperinflation crisis in Zimbabwe started when its government authorized the printing of more paper money, called fiat currency, to pay its national debt. Because of this decision, the value of the Zimbabwe dollar started to diminish fast. Faced by increasing deficit and the need to fund more government spending, the Zimbabwe government again authorized more paper money printing. This poured more money into the economy which only stoked more inflationary pressures on prices and commodities. To solve the problem, Zimbabwe attempted to print more money but the currency printer was pressured by the German government to stop printing money for Zimbabwe.

Today, 1 trillion Zimbabwe dollars are equivalent to the value of 1 Zimbabwe dollar. Such hyperinflationary situation worsened hunger, economic collapse, and political chaos. Such situation should serve as a beacon to the Federal Reserve. The path of printing paper money with no gold backing to fund government spending is utter suicide. However, all indicators and pronouncements made by the U.S. Fed point that the United States is heading into the merry ways of Zimbabwe. If the trend to print more paper money goes unchecked, the United States can go into hyperinflation leading to economic collapse and the end of U.S. global economic and political hegemony. American citizens however can still shield themselves from the suicidal path taken by the U.S. Fed. The solution lies on silver stocks which hold the key to future economic recovery.

Silver stocks are regaining its historical real values. The correction was brought about by the realization that silver and gold are the only valuable resources that can replace the current fiat currencies. This led to the recovery of silver stocks and brighter prospects on silver and gold investing. So whether the United States government follows Zimbabwe to the grave, ordinary Americans can still weather the crisis through their silver stocks. Such stocks will not diminish in value.

In fact, silver and gold are recognized by the international economic system as reliable resources that have purchasing power. So if you have heavy investments on silver stocks, your purchasing power will still hold despite the erosion of the value of the fiat U.S. dollar. Such simple solution should guide economic planners in recovering the economy from disaster. The Fed therefore should back the dollar with silver and gold and dump toxic assets, debts and wasteful spending.

Proponents of stem cell reseach believe that it could one day alleviate serious diseases.
