Go Green! Recycle Your Empty Inkjet Cartridges! Care for Environment! – these environmental awareness slogans are everywhere. But still, only about 5% of ink cartridges are recycled. Rest find their place in trash cans and landfills. I can only think of one reason for this – maybe people are not aware of why and how to recycle their empty inkjet cartridges. Let us look at both the factors. WHY? Why should you recycle your empty inkjet cartridges? Here are few reasons: 1) Recycling inkjet cartridges is environment friendly. Recycling helps reduce solid waste, conserves natural resources and energy. 2) Inkjet cartridges are made of plastic and petroleum based products. They may take up to 1,000 years to decompose. Now, this is a long time. With current environment issues, its time we start caring about it. 3) Save your tax money that would otherwise be spent for additional landfill management. 4) Recycled inkjet cartridges are refurbished, refilled and resold. This reduces the cost of inkjet cartridges, since they are sold at low price than the original inkjet cartridges. HOW? How to recycle your inkjet cartridges? There are two ways you can recycle your inkjet cartridges: 1) Look for instructions on the [...]

Here are few reasons:

1) Recycling inkjet cartridges is environment friendly.

There are two ways you can recycle your inkjet cartridges:

1) Look for instructions on the cartridge box. Most of the companies now have a recycling program, where they take in used cartridges at no charge. They also offer free postage and packaging materials. Some companies even offer a discount on next cartridge purchase in exchange for used cartridges.

2) Find a recycling location that accepts used inkjet cartridges. Most of them offer free shipping or pickup of used cartridges and may even pay few dollars per cartridge. Each location has a list of printer cartridges that they accept. Be sure to check that list before sending in your empty cartridges. Unfortunately, most of the recycling locations accept only original cartridges (ones that have never been recycled before).

You should also know that most inkjet cartridges can be recycled up to 7 times. The bottom line is – Start recycling your empty inkjet cartridges and save our environment.

As a homeowner, you should have a basic understanding of this Solar Panel technology, so you can make intelligent decisions about how you may use it. Solar Panel Power can be made complicated and expensive, yet it does not have to be either of these. There are opportunities here, and you don’t want to miss them. There are just a few basic components you will need to put the sun’s Solar Energy to work for you. The main component is of course, the Solar Panels.

Solar Power shows the most potential as a form of Renewable Energy. It’s also flexible enough to be used for very small personal tasks, or as the solar power source for a large Electrical Power Plant. One of its many good points is that, it does not require an infrastructure to be functional.

How you intend to use the Solar Power, will dictate the balance of the equipment you’ll need. Initially, let’s look at a stand-alone system that will not be connected to the power company or the AC voltage of your home. This system will require at least one Solar Panel, a Battery and a Charge Controller. You can always add additional Solar-Panels in the future.

The Charge Controller prevents overcharging, protecting the batteries. Uncontrolled this can reduce battery performance or lifespan, and may pose a safety risk. It can also prevent us from completely draining a battery, or perform controlled discharges, depending on the battery technology. This device is simply a small box that connects between the solar panels and the batteries.

A Charge Controller typically does this by limiting the rate at which electrical current is added to or drawn from batteries. It’s often intended for use with 12 or 24 volt solar panels, and it’s sized to handle a specific amount of amperage, and wattage of solar power. The Charge Controller is the ideal for protection for your Solar Panels and batteries.

Controllers using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) technologies are more electronically sophisticated, adjusting charging rates depending on the battery’s level, to allow charging closer to its maximum capacity. Charge controllers may also monitor battery temperature to prevent overheating.

If you want to operate AC products with your Solar Power, you’ll need an Inverter. The Power Inverter is an electronic device intended to take a low-voltage DC power from a solar panel and its battery, converting it to standard 115 volt AC power like the current you have in your home. This conversion process thereby allows you to use many of your household appliances and your electronic products virtually anywhere.

Different power inverters are made to produce different types of AC power. Some sophisticated electronics do not function properly using a square wave AC, which the type of power produced by some inexpensive Inverters. On the other hand, if you want to power solar lights, motors like fans or the compressor in your refrigerator, this type of inverted power is just fine. You’ll want to use a Pure-Sine Inverter to power some of the more select items.

Grid Tie Inverters can feed solar energy back into the distribution network, the power company’s wires. They produce Alternating Current with the same wave shape and frequency as supplied by the distribution system. This is type of Inverter you would use if your going to connect your Solar Panels energy to the power company.

How does a Solar Panel work? It’s just pure magic, you put the panel in sunlight and it magically produces electricity – it’s marvelous! Actually, the semiconductor material in the Solar Panel must absorb photons in sunlight. This absorption in turn releases atoms, which begin to flow through the semiconductor to create an electrical charge, put simply.

Today, you have a choice in solar panel technology, as the industry is evolving. There is the traditional, which to most, would appear like a framed picture with glass. Another is referred to as, thin-film. Which you will find presented in the typical glass frame approach, as well as a flexible non-breakable material. Both offer different levels of sophistication and efficiency.

One of the more recent techniques that is being used today to improve efficiency are solar panels that react to more than one frequency of light. This permits the panel to gather more energy from the sun, and even perform in times of clouds. A Triple Junction module for example, combines three separate tuned PV layers for red, green and blue light.

There has been lot of innovation that has gone into improvements in recent years of Solar Panels. All the components involved are becoming more efficient, and costs have come down significantly. It’s important to understand the sizing or the amount of power you can get from a Solar system. It can be misleading, for example a small Solar Power System may offer 650 watts of energy. You think to yourself, I can’t even run my coffee pot on that! Actually, that is not the case.

That 650 watts is per-hour of solar energy collected from the sun. If you live in an area that has an average of 6 hours of sunlight per day, that’s 3,900 watts per day, or 117,000 watts per month. Almost everywhere across the country we have 4.5 to 6.5 hours average annual daily sunlight. Your coffee pot may actually draw a 1000 watts per hour, and in reality only consume 160 watts to make a pot of coffee. Based on that, you’re good for 731 pots of coffee per month from a system that small. I hope you like coffee!

In small systems, the extra solar power is stored in deep cell batteries. In larger systems, you can connect directly to the power company. They use the extra power, and provide you power in return during hours of darkness. This is credited against your electrical costs. A favorite past time of some Solar Power owners is to watch the electrical meter go backwards. There’s something about this phenomenon that amuses them. Now honestly, did you know that over half the barrel of crude oil is made into other products. We would find many, difficult to do without. Look around you and consider what is made from plastic (even solar panels). Then consider the asphalt on our roads, the rubber in our tires, and the tar on our roofs (plastic in solar lights).

Hundreds, actually thousands, of products you use everyday come from that barrel of crude oil. Over 53 percent of a barrel of crude oil is made into countless plastics, polymers, electronic components, wax and packaging materials, perfume, jet fuel, paint, insect repellent, tires, sulfur, safety glass, pharmaceuticals, lubrications, asphalt, propane, diesel, soaps, computers, flooring like linoleum, tiles, and carpets, insecticides, shampoo, fertilizers, hand lotion and creams, electrodes, cosmetics, fibers and materials like polyester and nylon, elastomer materials, solvents, synthetics, heating oil, numerous chemicals, solid fuels, hydrogen, carbon, and kerosene . . . over 4,000 petrochemical products, AND the rest is gasoline.

So go ahead, try to build an automobile, a television, a solar panel, or a computer without oil. From the carpet under our feet, to the roofs over ours heads, and the clothes on many of our backs . . . you will find oil plays a major part. I’m not saying there are not alternatives, just that we need a better plan than just, us and them.

I believe coal has remained cheap because society has not forced mining operations and power companies to internalize the costs of the environmental, economic, and health damage associated with coal into the price. Coal continues to dominate simply because the market doesn’t reflect social costs. This is going to change. Solar Power is already competitive with coal even before these realizations will begin to drive up the cost of coal.

Construction cost estimates for new coal-fired power plants have increased significantly in recent years. There have been staggering increases in recent costs. The estimated costs of building new coal plants have reached $3,500 per kW, without financing costs, and are expected to increase further. A cost of well over $2 billion for a new 600 MW coal plant. Solar Power anyone?

I’m one-hundred percent for Renewable Solar Energy, and I believe Solar Power is the most promising choice. That said, without both coal and oil, at this moment in time, our society would crumble. Frankly, we wouldn’t survive. I’m not aware of anyone that could give up the use of oil or its by-products. Or shutting down half the power plants in the country, and giving up on coal. So, let’s put our collective minds together and find solutions, not arguments. We need the coal, we need the oil, we need the jobs, and we need Solar Power to emerge and evolve into the solution it can be for our future. For Solar solutions go to http://SolarWorks211.com

Plastics are labeled with numbers 1 through 7; only numbers one and two are easily and efficiently recycled of the seven types of plastic that are stamped as “recyclable”. With the Halloween season in full swing, consumers in increasing numbers are being “plastic-conscious” with costumes, candy wrappers, and Halloween bags by keeping in mind that recycling, no matter how little we each recycle, combines to make a big difference. The plastic problem has no simple solution, but there are ways that the consumer can help. For instance, “precycling” is the practice of considering your packaging before you buy. Make sure your plastic is number 1 or 2 before buying. If it isn’t, consider a different product choice. And by reusing paper and trade show bags you can further reduce plastic waste that goes into landfills and ocean dumping. Here is the recyclable number labels breakdown: Number 1 is pretty easily recycled: Polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE). And by reusing paper and trade show bags you can further reduce plastic waste that goes into landfills and ocean dumping. Here is the recyclable number labels breakdown:

Number 1 is pretty easily recycled: Polyethylene terephthalate (PET or PETE). It is often clear, relatively lightweight (or thinner) and is used in: mouthwash containers, soda bottles, salad dressing containers, plastic food jars, water bottles,

Number 2, also easy to recycle, is High density polyethylene (HDPE), is used in heavier containers like: milk jugs, snack food containers, laundry detergent containers, shampoo bottles, detergent bottles

We run into problems with numbers 3 though 7. If you have tried to take any of these to your local recycling center you may have wondered why they won’t take them. These plastics are difficult to recycle.

Number 3 – Polyvinyl chloride (V or Vinyl PVC), used to make: shower curtains, cooking oil bottles, pipe and pipe fittings, medical tubing,

Number 4 – Low density polyethylene (LDPE), often colored, is used to make: sandwich storage and “zipper” bags, grocery and vegetable/meat bags, plastic wrapping paper, squeezable ketchup and mustard bottles

Number 5 – Polypropylene (PP), also often colored, is used for: tubs of butter, cookie dough, whipped topping, tupperware containers, yogurt and gelatin containers, pancake and chocolate syrup bottles

Number 6 – Polystyrene (PS), is used in: ”To – Go” food containers, egg cartons, disposable cups, bowls and plates, styrofoam containers, packing peanuts

Number 7 – Which includes a miscellany of all other plastics, which include: fast food beverage containers, baby bottles, cell phones, CDs, electronics casings, sports water bottles

Reuse & Repurpose: If you must use plastic, find creative ways to reuse and repurpose it. There is a wealth of information on this topic available on the Internet about plastic bags recycling. For more information about recycling in your area, contact your local plastic recycling experts to learn more.

The kitchen sink is where you should try to focus your attention. Instead of letting the water run when you are cleaning your vegetables, you can put water in a bowl and wash them there. You get the same result but with twice as less water consumption. You can also reuse the water you washed the vegetables in, to water the plants. Reusing the water is not a bad thing. It is your resource and you should make the best of it. Even the water from the coffeepot is great for the plants and you can fertilize them easily.

When you are cooking pasta, potatoes or steamed vegetables, you can let it cool down and then use it to water the plants. This water is full of nutrients from the boiled vegetables and it will do a great job for your garden. Also, you can pour the hot boiling water over the weeds as it will kill them. In addition, after you are done eating, you can scrape the food off the dishes into the bucket and rinse them after that. You will save a lot of water doing this. While you are rinsing, put the other soiled dishes underneath while you work. This way, they will pre-soak with the water you are already using. You will reduce the effort of washing and also the water consumption.

Also, if you do your dishes in a few inches of water with soap you will save approximately 5 gallons of water. When you are rinsing the dishes the hot water that will go in the sink will keep the temperature at a constant level. This way you will not need to fill another sink with water.

Also, in winter time, you could let the hot water in the sink for a while. This way, the hot water will release its heat into the atmosphere. You can also trap that hot water in a soiled pot and let it cool down there.

Besides all this, you could use slightly warm water to wash the dishes instead of really hot water. When you are simply washing your hands, turning on the hot water will only waste it because by the time you finish cleaning your hands the water will start to warm and you will only be heating the pipes a little. Try not to let the water running when you are away from the sink because every drop of water counts.

If you measure every drop of water you saved every day you will see that by the end of the month you will have saved up many gallons.

In conclusion, by keeping tabs on the running water and by reducing the hot water consumption, you can diminish your energy bills considerably.

Electric bills are going up and the money you are making is going down because you have a lot more money to pay out when you get your check and there are no signs of things changing in today’s economy.

There are other ways you can cut the power bill for your house so you have extra money to spend on other bills. Solar panels can make enough power for you to power your house so you can cut the electric bill in half or even cut out the electric bill out all together. There are many things you can do to get your electric bill out of the picture with the use of solar panels.

The first thing you need to do is to determine where you are going to set up your panel. You need to put your panel in a place where the sun is going to hit the panel all day long. If you get partial sun from time to time then you have put your panel on a swivel so it is easier to rotate so you can get the panel in direct sun as the day passes by. The solar panel has to be in direct sunlight in order for the panel to produce the maximum amount of power for your house.

Once you have the spot you are going to put your panel, then you have to build your solar panel. You can get a kit with everything you need to build it yourself online for about $200 at the least. There are other plans you can buy online or you can find some plans online for free and then you have to find the materials yourself. You can find all of the materials you need in your local junkyards or things that are lying around your house.

Now that you have built your solar panel and you picked out the spot you want to place it, now you can connect the power plant to your house. This is where your electric bill will be cut or at least reduced because if your local electric company has a program that pays you from producing power, you can actually get paid for making your own electricity.

If you can make enough power for your home and you have power that is just going to waste, look into your power company because if they have this program in place, your power bill might come in form of a check each month instead of a bill.

The green energy trend has certainly picked up momentum in the last year alone. Alternative energy researches that have long collected dust or put in the back burner are now taking the world stage, front and center. One of the leading contenders for this new (and hopefully, sustained) green energy research is finding a way to be more efficient in turning the sun’s light into electricity. The idea that light can be turned into electricity (the process is more scientifically known as the “photovoltaic” effect) is nothing new, but the efficiency of the process has always been a little off. In the beginning, the first solar cell had a conversion efficiency of 1%. This means that only 1% of the light that is absorbed is actually turned into electricity. Today, that rate has come a long way, about 40%. It really isn’t comparable (yet) to the way fossil fuels can generate electricity but there are a number of advantages to sourcing electricity from the sun than from fossil fuels, like being environmentally friendly and easily installed.

However, the initial expense in creating the solar panel array can be quite high, especially if one buys a prefabricated panel, and become a victim of shameless profiteering. A single solar panel can go for around $500 to $800, with the most expensive parts being the solar cells (but only because you really need a lot of them). After the solar panel is up and working, maintenance cost is quite low. The problem is that an ordinary house will need more than just one panel.

For every problem, there is a solution. The answer to lowering the costs of installing a solar panel would be to build one from the ground up. There are hundreds of Do It Yourself kits in the market, and these come in different sizes. Should one feel doubtful about their building skills, they could always buy the smallest ones first, which are usually used as educational tools. They cost a lot less and the task would not be as overwhelming.

The next size to try would be the type of solar panels that will power only specific equipment or appliances, like the water heater or the Jacuzzi. After a while, the builder will probably get the hang of it and be churning out panels to cover the roof.

A school DIY kit often costs less than $100, and a full solar panel will cost about $200. Even if they mess up one kit and be able to succeed only on the second kit, they would still be able to save at least $100, though it really is not as hard as it seems. With a bit of practice, anyone can do it.

Another advantage of building the solar panel is the satisfaction of being able to create something useful with one’s own hands. It may not be a work of art in the first few tries, but it’s really not a beauty contest anyway.

Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, charges the battery that will be used to power up electrical appliances in a home or a business structure. This is a fact that almost everyone knows about. However, it raises another question, how exactly do these solar panels work? One can find this out by examining the parts of the solar panel. The parts of the solar panel itself are very simple. There are the solar cells, and these are attached to the frame. Onto the frame are little holes drilled through to allow access to the cells by wires that are in turn attached to the battery. A meter may be placed to measure the amount of energy being generated. The Function of Each Part 1. Solar cells- these are made of semi-conductive materials, mainly silicone with a few other additives that help them absorb more light to turn into electric energy. Not all light that will hit the surface of the solar cell will be absorbed, some will pass through, and some will be reflected. About 41% will be turned into electricity (half a volt per 3x6inch cell surface) through what is called the photovoltaic effect. 2. Wires- these will collect [...]

Onto the frame are little holes drilled through to allow access to the cells by wires that are in turn attached to the battery. A meter may be placed to measure the amount of energy being generated.

The Function of Each Part

2. Wires- these will collect the electricity generated and conduct them into the batteries. It is important to know how much energy is generated because the power generated needs to be a lot more than the battery being charged. This is where an ampemeter will come in handy, and these can be found in many electrical equipment stores.

3. Batteries- this is where the electricity generated will be stored after being charged up. Since it takes more power to charge it than it can store, one can opt to buy smaller batteries and connect them together when needed to power up something.

The Sum of the Parts

When all these parts are connected properly, the entire contraption becomes a small power generation plant that makes no sound, has no toxic by-products, are built to last for a long time with minimal maintenance needs (also quite affordable), and comes from the cheapest and most renewable source. Seeing that the parts of the solar panels are as uncomplicated as they can get, they are also very easy to install and incorporate onto the structure of the house (the roof is best).

Solar panels are also becoming more affordable as they are becoming more efficient. Although the silicone cells need to be manufactured in factories with really high-tech equipment, more and more companies are investing in building such manufacturing plants.

Solar panels are best used in areas that have sunlight all year long, but in parts of the country where it can get windy on some days, the solar panel array can be complemented by wind turbines or micro-hydrogenerators (which work best in running water like rivers and strong streams).

Solar panels have been around a while, and thanks to the new developments and manufacturing companies, it looks like it will be around a long time.

Not that many people understand the importance of finding alternative power sources for their everyday needs. The constant use of fossil fuels and other expendable resources may not only run out eventually, the waste products that these energy sources create are actually slowly killing our planet. Saving our planet from ourselves is something that a few people have started to take seriously. To show others that there are alternatives to using fossil fuels and other environment damaging energy sources, these people have started using the sun as their energy source with the use of solar panels. Solar panels use the energy of the sun’s rays and harness this energy to be used with the many different gadgets that we use in our homes. These solar power panels take this energy and stores them in batteries for use whenever you need them.

Aside from energy that can be used to operate your television or to operate your blender, the heat that is gathered by these sunlight-gathering panels can also be used to heat up water when you need hot water in your home. This multipurpose quality of solar power panels makes them a really good idea for energy for your home.

Not only do these solar panels give us the chance to protect our environment and the air we breathe, they actually give us the chance to save up. The constantly rising costs of fossil fuels and other resources make paying electric bills somewhat of a pain in the neck. Your monthly utility bills may very well become a thing of the past if you convert to using the reusable energy called solar energy. Using solar power panels to light your home, to heat up your water, to turn on your computer, and to keep you warm at night is something you should carefully consider.

Of course, converting to solar-powered homes and using solar panels to help with the ever-rising need to clean up our air is not that easy a task to achieve. Converting your home into one that uses solar power panels for electrical uses may cost you a bit at first, but the end results are actually well worth the hassle and the work you need to put in. Some people find ways to create solar power panels themselves or find ways to use other natural and reusable sources of energy with their solar panels. All a person needs to do is study the possibilities that these alternative energy sources present and use this information to try and convert from environmentally destructive energy sources to reusable and environment friendly energy alternatives.

The future of the planet lies in the hands of the people who inhabit it, and if nothing is done soon to help restore the balance between nature and the people who live on this planet, there may be no future to speak of. The key to the future does lie in the use of solar panels and other reusable energy sources. All that needs to be done is to get people to realize this and do their part to secure the Earth’s future.

Using solar panels and making solar power panel your source of clean renewable energy may just help save the planet from destruction.
