Should you take buyout – In most cases you are are better off declining a buyout and continuing to work. It is unlikely you will be able make up the income from those last few years. But if you think your employer is about to go out of business, then take the buyout because some money is better than none.

If you face a layoff - Work on getting the information you will need to get your next job. Grab your Rolodex or download your e-mail address book at home so that you’ll still be able to reach important industry contacts. Do not take anything that is company property including customer lists because you could lose any severance that is due to you.

Don’t try to negotiate your way back into your job. Instead focus on extending any benefits you are provided, such as outplacement services. Your company should offer to continue your health insurance for at least a month, but try to negotiate more if you are in good standing. Another option COBRA. If you can afford to pay the full premium, plus administrative costs, this federal law allows you to extend your existing coverage for as long as 18 months. If you can use a spouse’s coverage, opt for that –it’ll be cheaper.

Focus on your next job – It’s true that unemployment is on the rise, but that doesn’t mean nobody is hiring. The Bureau of Labor statistics reports that by 2016, the U.S. will need more teachers, more auditors, accountants, and other financial professionals. Health care is expected to create some 3 million new jobs over the next eight years. HR directors do say they often can’t find the right person for an open job. So look to industries that are still growing – your skills may transfer.

I was just watching the news today, and they ran a story about a very nice family who was drowning in debt. They had always paid bills on time, but their credit card company had just raised their interest rate and the minimium payment they needed to make every month. I still don’t understand why this happens, especially after the same bank that issued the credit card got a huge government bailout, but it is all around us today.

And so sometimes, no matter how frugal we try to be, we just need some more income every month. We need this money to pay down debt, or even just to keep up with debt. And we really need to start saving more money too! That was the point of this article – How To Make Money Fast?

So with a busy schedule, how can we possible find time for a second job? If you are like me, you stop work in the late afternoon to rush dinner, and then make sure kids show up for evening activities. It’s not like we have a lot of time to goof around here. So we know that if we want to raise more money, it has to be on our schedule!

But lots of people have solved this problem with some very creative ideas to make money.

I know the guy who mows my lawn started out with an old pickup, a friendly manner, and a willingness to clean up yards on the week-end. There seem to be a lot of single moms on my block, and we all hired him, and then told others about him.

One of my neighbors (also a single mom) owns a property company, and she hired him for her own lawn – and then for her business! Now this guy has employees, larger equipment, and a new truck! He took on a task that may seem drudge work, and turned it into a business that he runs now!

When I needed extra money, I started out by cleainging out my closets ( a double benefit) of unwanted clothes, videos my kids had outgrown, and other things we just did not use. But these things still had value to somebody. Now some people just hold garage sales, but I’ve had more fun selling them online at Ebay. I only do it once in awhile, but I know people who have made a full time job out of it!

Maybe you have a new Playstation and don’t need the old Ninendo 64 anymore. Well, you know what? Somebody out there does want it, and EBay is a good place to find that person!
