Dogs are known for eating things they should not. Though some dogs seem to have iron stomachs others can suffer from diarrhea and painful cramps. Sometimes diarrhea is caused by parasites or problems in the intestines or other organs. Dogs may also be reacting to something in the dog food. Allergies to chemical additives may affect some dogs. Vets and home remedy blogs all say that for the first 24 hours, give your dog nothing but water. If you have a puppy or your dogs has diabetes check with your vet before letting them go all day without food. After that period, just give bland foods. Give your dog fluids and foods that are very easy to digest. Diarrhea causes dehydration so give your pet water, low salt broth, or add Gatorade or Pedialyte to water to restore fluid levels. You can also help get rid of the diarrhea by giving your dog foods with fiber. Canned pumpkin or flaxseed are safe for dogs. A probiotic food such as yogurt is also helpful. Probiotics have good bacteria which helps your pet’s digestive system fight the bad bacteria which may be causing the diarrhea. Though your dog can not tell you [...]

When your dog develops urinary incontinence, many owners fear the worst. Don’t assume that incontinence is because of senility or age related changes. Vets say that urinary incontinence is usually one of easiest problems to solve. The situation is tough on pets and owners. Pets instinctively want to keep their home unsoiled and owners want their homes to stay nice. Don’t mistake incontinence (involuntary urine leakage) for behavioral urinary issues (submissive urination) or simple lack of house training, territorial marking of anxious cats or of unneutered males, or the senile loss of house-training from canine cognitive dysfunction. You can tell the difference by watching your pet’s behavior when they urinate. A report from you on your pet’s behavior along with a urinalysis from the vet should tell what the problem is. After the underlying condition has been treated, certain natural herbal and homeopathic remedies can go a long way in helping to relieve the symptom of poor bladder control and provide natural feline and canine bladder control.PetAlive Better-Bladder Control contains herbal and homeopathic ingredients which help increase bladder strength, reduce incontinence and improve the over all health of the urinary system. I am sure that the big onle retailers are not selling a lot of knit pet sweaters during the warmer months. Consider some of these things before you decide when the right time to buy should be! When Should You Buy Dog Clothes? Why wait until winter?
When Should You Buy Dog Clothes?

You may want to find some good warm dog clothes so your dog stays comfortable as you move around from the hot outdoors to the cool indoors!

Get The Right Pet Garments Now

You can find the perfect pet garment in a variety of places these days! The right place to shop will probably depend upon the type of garment that you want to purchase. You can always shop at a local pet shop. If you have some unique tastes, and are very picky, you may want to look online for a specialty retailer. They will probably have a bigger selection.

Some big craft outlets, like Etsy or EBay, even have dog fashion designs that will be very unique and distinctive.

Many dog owners complain their dog has bad breath and do not know what to do about it. You can’t get your dog to gargle with mouthwash and dogs certainly can’t brush their own teeth. Dog owner’s are supposed to brush their pet’s teeth but most don’t. So what is a pet owner to do and why do dogs have bad breath in the first place.

Bad breath is the result of a build-up of odor-producing bacteria in your dog’s mouth, lungs or gut.
In most cases canine bad breath is caused by dental or gum disease. However, persistent bad breath can also indicate larger medical problems in the mouth, respiratory system, gastrointestinal tract or organs.

At one point our dog had a really bad smell and I thought it was coming from her skin but it turned out she had an infection in her mouth.

So it is important to check with your vet if your pet has continual bad breath. Additionally, there are some thing you can do to improve dental health and digestive health which will help prevent the common causes of bad breath.

Here a few ideas from holistic vets on how to prevent bad breath in your pet:

Give your pet dry food – Dogs and cats love the aroma and taste of moist foods, but these foods don’t always agree with them. Moist foods stick to the teeth, which encourages foul- smelling bacteria to proliferate. Cats may need both wet and dry food because they don’t always drink a lot of water and can use the extra fluids they get from moist foods.

Give your pet carrots – Raw carrots are great for the teeth because they act like natural tooth scrapers. If your pet is reluctant to eat carrots, try freezing them first. Most dogs and cats enjoy crunching ice cubes and other cold treats, and freezing the carrots will make them more tempting.

Settle the stomach – Since bad breath is often caused by indigestion you may want our pet some ginger, which helps calm an upset stomach. Vets recommend to give your pet one tablespoon of fresh sliced ginger to a cup of hot filtered water and letting the tea cool. Strain the tea and give pets under 15 pounds 1/2 to one teaspoon of the tea, using a dropper or needle less syringe. Give one teaspoon to one tablespoon to pets weighing 15 to 50 pounds and one to three tablespoons to larger dogs

Try PetAlive Digestive Support which is an excellent digestive system tonic and contains three carefully chosen herbs in therapeutic dosage to soothe and support the stomach lining, esophagus, and entire digestive tract. Using a digestive remedy really does help your pets digestive system work more efficiently which helps reduce gas and makes them feel better. If your pet gets really sick pet insurance can be the difference between euthanizing and saving your pet. But before you purchase pet insurance you need to understand what it truly covers. Just like regular health insurance pet insurers will often limit coverage for pre-existing conditions. It is important to understand how pet insurance companies define pre-existing conditions. Obviously if your pet has arthritis or allergies, you know that is going to be considered a pre-existing condition just as with people diabetes is considered a pre-existing condition. Where it gets a bit sticky with pets is with the genetic conditions or breed specific conditions which may be included in the “pre-existing condition” category by a pet insurance company. Breed-specific conditions may not appear in your pet for many years. When they do arrive they can be costly to take care of. Pet Insurance companies are aware of this and therefore will not pay for treatment for some of these conditions.
Dog’s that enjoy swimming can also develop ear infections because water may stay in their ears long after the swim is over. If you use Ear Dr. every day your pet’s ear will stay healthy.

Long ears tend to keep the inside of the ear moist making it a good place for infections to develop or ear mites to live in.
Persian cats tend to be picky about what they eat. Vets say that Persians are picky because they have very delicate digestive systems and need to be careful about what they put in their stomach. You need to find a food for your Persian that tastes good and has a good amount of protein. It is sometimes hard to find a good dry food with enough protein so consider looking at the canned variety. If you want to avoid commercial food and give your cat a raw food diet, you can do so. Make sure they get a taurine supplement to make sure they have adequate levels. See our post Taurine Supplements for Cats Also give your Persian bottled water not tap. Persians tend to gain weight easily so you might consider a commercial vegetarian food supplemented by wheatgrass. You need to ask your vet though before you make change in your pet’s diet. A transition period for diet change is good to avoid intestinal problems. You can also use a natural digestive supplement on a daily basis to help strengthen their immune system and prevent any digestive problems from developing.

You can also use a natural digestive supplement on a daily basis to help strengthen their immune system and prevent any digestive problems from developing.<a href=http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=40945&u=255855&m=6374&urllink=&afftrack=">PetAlive Digestive Support is a tonic that helps strengthen the digestive system and is formulated for cats.
Persians have digestive problems if they eat too much such as diarrhea or vomiting. Their sensitive stomachs can only take in small amounts of food. Some Persians can not tolerate certain brands of commercial foods. You can find some special foods that are made especially for cats with irritable gastrointestinal tracts but a cheaper and perhaps more effective option is to use a natural digestive supplement which will strengthen their digestive system and be a good preventative against an upset tummy.

What About Big Dogs? If you have been happy with dog snuggies, you probably want to buy one for each dog, and even for each dog owner that you know. There is one big problem with getting a Snuggie For Each Dog! It seems impossible to find snuggies for big dogs! While you can buy these cute little doggie blankets for small to medium sized dogs, up to about thirty pounds, your larger dog will have to go bare if you want to rely upon these unique ways to keep your dog comfortable. I am not sure why this is true. The manufacturer of these unique pet clothes may have to use a little more fabric for a big Great Dane than a tiny little toy poodle. However, I am sure they could charge a bit more for the larger item too. Since you can often find a deal where you can purchase the second one for the cost of “shipping and handling”, they could also charge a bit more handling. Is this too complicated?
Snuggy Or Sweater For Larger Pets?

If you own a larger dog, you may have to make your own snuggie out of a blanket, a strap, and some fasteners. Or you may have to turn to a traditional dog sweater. You can certainly find sweaters for dogs of almost any size. Bacteria can enter the bloodstream from the infected teeth and gums causing infections in other vital organs and joints. . Damage to these organs can shorten your pet’s life not to mention emptying your bank account. According to veterinarians good dental care can increase life span an average of 2 to 3 years.

Brushing your pet’s teeth regularly will decrease incidents of periodontal disease.

If you can’t get to brushing your pet’s teeth every day use pet foods that are especially designed to help clean teeth.

Avoid feeding pets table scraps because they can increase the build up of plaque and tartar, and can lead to other health problems.

Your pet will still need regular dental check ups and cleaning . Vets actually have equipment similar to your dentist and are able to help your pet’s teeth resist tarter and plaque build up.

Dental cleaning usually costs about $250.00 (includes general anesthesia, antibacterial rinse, simple cleaning, basic scaling and polishing). You may have additional charges may apply if extended cleaning is required (i.e. severe tartar and staining, larger animals)

Pet Embrace Insurance has a Dental Rewards Plan that can help you avoid incurring a big monthly expense to pay for cost of these dental exams.Embrace Pet Insurance offers a Dental Rewards program along with their insurance; which is an allowance (with bonus cash) that you can spend towards:
