Well, some people, especially those who pioneered a market niche or came up with a revolutionary application or method, do earn serious bucks, such as Google or Amazon and E-bay. There are also marketing consultants (the real ones, at least) who know what they are doing and what they are talking about, and earn income by mentoring dedicated people who want to try their luck, and their marketing skills, online.

The thing is there are actually a lot of ways to earn a quick buck online, especially for not-so-honest people. If you are thinking of starting an online business by acquiring that internet business opportunity that some random fellow sent you an e-mail about, you might want to keep these things in mind in order to make sure that you will not fall a victim to internet business scams

What changes hands?

While there are legitimate Multi-level marketing businesses, there are pyramiding schemes that masquerade as MLM firms. You have to be very careful and check whether the income is commission-based or member-recruitment-based. Most fly-by-night businesses actually sell distributorship instead of products. In this case, take a step backward and ask yourself – is it really necessary to acquire distributorship for that price? If the product is a market leader, that is a possibility, but take note that reputable companies would normally let you sell pr advertise their product, and let you earn part of the profit, instead of selling you some run-of-the-mill website.

However, do not confuse MLMs with two-tier affiliate programs where you can ‘link’ your site to a ‘middleman’ who will earn a cut from another company by the sales or traffic you generate. This might work, and some actually take advantage of this. But you can always eliminate the middleman and be the affiliate yourself, right?

What are the so-called add-ons?

Some of these con artists would tell you that they can give you a bonus by letting you have ‘free advertising’ in dozens of search engines. Most people would like this idea, since everybody knows that search engines are a sure-fire way to gain traffic and eventually earn brand recognition. However, only a handful of these search engines deliver considerable traffic (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Dogpile, to name a few), and the others are relatively insignificant. So why would you care for that ‘free advertising’?

How wonderful is wonderful?

Most people fall for internet business scams because of much hyped-up ‘wonderfulness’. Some would tell you that they can generate 50,000 clicks or site visitors in a day, when the truth is, they could not even guarantee a hundred. Others will tell you that you can earn, say a hundred grand, without telling you that it will actually take 20 years. Some of these ‘offers’ do not give you what you were promised and it is up to you, to find out whether they could or couldn’t. When checking into a company’s background, do not be fooled by testimonials, guarantees and huge income potentials. You can check a company’s trustworthiness by checking whether it is a Better Business Bureau member, for starters.

When all else fails, remember that if it is too good to be true, it probably isn’t. Note that the operative word is ‘probably’. There are offers that are blatant internet business scams and others are much more difficult to spot and might even be legitimate. You might miss out on an opportunity; however, when you are about to shell out hard-earned money for that opportunity, sometimes it is good to investigate whether what is offered is a gift, or a burden.

So there is always a requirement for child models although it might not be as often as it is in professional advertising. Today, the industry even requires children for modeling on the ramp. So there are several changes that have gone about making the modeling industry different but parent who have aspiring child models need to be extremely cautious because there are several fake agencies out there who just want to rip you off.

The question is how you can distinguish between a real agency and a fake one. After all, no one would say that their agency is a fake and most agencies looking for children for modeling work almost in a similar fashion. Here are some things that you need to remember:

A legitimate or real agency will never ask you for money or any type of advance payment. The norm is that agencies will check the portfolio of all child models and send it ahead to an advertising agency or directly to the client for an audition. If you child gets through the audition and gets an assignment then you will need to pay the modeling agency a mutually agreed percentage. If the agency is a fake modeling agency then they will charge you money in advance for creating a portfolio or for modeling classes or even to get an audition. Never fall for that trap!

The second most important fact is that agencies don’t conduct modeling classes nor do they try and sell modeling classes. A fake agency will try to impress you by saying that they will get your child into a modeling class so that they are better prepared for the audition and the probability of getting through is also higher. You need to understand that companies looking for children for modeling work don’t require your child to have any previous modeling background or education. All they need is a child who is smart, cute, charming, and who can carry a big and innocent smile. So if an agency tells you that they will enroll your child in their modeling classes, and then put your foot down. This is definitely not the modeling agency that you are looking for.

Last but not the least, a legitimate modeling agency will not try and sell you photos. If you get photographs of your child clicked at an agency then pay directly to the photographer instead of the agency.

I have been an internet professional for almost a decade now, and along the way, I have certainly seen my share of online scams. One of the most common type of scam actually targets website owners, like myself. And they can be very tricky to spot!  You would think that those of us who work on the web would be immune to online scammers, but we all get burned a few times too.

Same Domain Name – Different TLD Scam - Let’s say you own the domain BigBlueWidgets.Info – you get this email from a company that says they have gotten rights to sell you BigBlueWidgets.com (a much more attractive suffix or TLD) for only $99.99!

Well, chance are that domain is available to everybody, and you can go to your normal registrar and obtain it for the normal price which should be about $10 or less!  These guys must have software that looks for owners of the less popular TLD (Suffixes), and then spits out constant emails that the .com is available. Of course, if they do suck somebody in, they make a huge profit. However, you can also thank them for doing you a big favor of letting you know that the .com is available to register in case you didn’t know!

Letters That Your Domain Will Expire – Of course, you want to make sure that you are keeping your domains active. But that should be through your normal registrar. Sometimes you may get an email from another registrar that lets you know your domains will expire, and that offer to let your extend them – for a price that is often much higher than your normal domain registration company!

Of course, you just need to login to your normal registration company to check on your domains. The 3rd party company is just scraping up lists of domains that are about to expire and trying to steal businesses from other companies.
