			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Every small business should have developed a business plan for 2010 by now. If you haven’t set goals, action plans, employee accountability, and timetables, then you’re like the blindfolded archer shooting at a target.</p>
<p>Part of the business plan is a marketing plan that looks back at what worked and didn’t work in 2009. Taking these aspects into consideration, what improvements in your marketing need to be done in 2010 to improve and grow?</p>
<p>You can develop a simple yet definitive marketing plan by answering these 7 questions:<br />
1. Define the purposes of your marketing plan and how are you going to achieve them. Maybe it is to increase awareness of your location. Possibly the marketing plan wants to grow a new niche product you are selling. It can be as specific as to provide awareness and reach a certain dollar sales goal.<br />
2. Determine your target market. Believe me when I say it is not “everyone”. As a small business owner you should have a well defined target market. Even if you just sell on the web, your target market is not everyone on the web. Maybe you don’t ship overseas. Maybe only people who fish want to buy your rods and reels. You have a limited budget, so limit your audience.<br />
3. What is your niche? This can be things like your expertise, efficiency, exclusivity, customer satisfaction, loyalty, or a unique buying experience. A question within a question to help you determine a niche is “We want to be known as…?”<br />
4. What are the benefits and competitive advantages of your product or service? The customer wants to know “What’s in it for me?” A marketing plan should be focused on helping the sales team sell benefits, not features. A self cleaning oven is a feature. You don’t sell features; you sell benefits. So the benefit is convenience.<br />
5. What do you want your identity to be? This is a visual expression of your company including the look, feel, color, and logo. Anything that meets the senses of your customers can convey your company’s identity.<br />
6. What are your marketing weapons? Some examples are print advertising, television, the web, public relations, etc.<br />
7. What is your marketing budget? The total should relate to a percent of sales it is expected to generate. Each marketing weapon defined in #6 should have a budget.</p>
<p>Finally, your business plan and your marketing plan are living documents. Revisit them and refine them. One constant question you and your team will answer in all of this is “What can we do better?”</p>

<p>When I first started internet marketing, I looked for national and international companies to promote. I thought that the potential of the World Wide Web would be greatest for companies that could service people from all over the US, or even all over the world. But I missed the power of local geo-targetting. Sometimes it is much easier to rank for companies that only do business in a local area.</p>
<p>And sometimes you can use the power of local marketing to target companies that do business in other areas too. Imagine how much easier it would be to hit the first page of a search engine for a variety of local searches instead of trying to compete with all of the national or international companies.</p>
<p>What does that mean? It means that it may be much easier and faster to target Red Widgets in Omaha and Blue Widgets in Des Moine that it would be to just try to target a keyword like Widgets!</p>
<p>You can also find plenty of local busines directories, and some of these are very popular sources of information for internet searchers who need a product or business!</p>
<p>Consider a real world example. Are you trying to find consumers who want a <a href="http://www.bestquoteus.com/bestrateshomeowners.html">good deal on homeowners insurance</a>? Maybe it would be much easier to target <a href="http://www.houstonhandshake.com/category/finance-and-insurance/">Houston Insurance.</a>  In a large city, it might even be good to target parts of town. So maybe you should change it to <a href="http://www.houstonhandshake.com/category/finance-and-insurance/location/midtown-houston/">Midtown Houston Insurance</a>. You can test several campaigns like this. Smaller and more targetted efforts may pay off better than one large one for the whole USA!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When I was in college I worked selling clothes in a menswear shop. When I started, my natural approach to a customer was the common phrase”Can I help you?” to which I would get the common phrase “No thank you, just looking.”<br />
I soon learned that if I wanted to engage the customer I needed to develop a relationship. Essentially I was running my own business since we worked on commission. And just like every successful entrepreneur, I had to determine the customer’s need and present a benefit to satisfy their need.<br />
Soon my approach was to guide the customer by telling them what was new in stock or what might be on sale. ‘Hello there, men’s trousers are through to the left, shirts are straight ahead, suits are next to the shoes, over there. Is it anything in particular you are looking for?’ This technique allowed me to ferret out their need. Maybe it was a navy blue pinstripe suit or a tie for a particular shirt. This nearly always caused customers to tell me what they were seeking and allowed me to help them.<br />
As I say in my seminar Relationship Selling, become a solution seller. Every potential customer has a need otherwise they would not have come into your shop, sent you an email, or called you on the phone. It’s up to you to determine the need and present the benefit your product or service can provide. Chances are the sale is just waiting to be consummated.</p>

<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Do you create <a href="http://www.southpoleradio.com/">music</a> and sell online? Maybe you sell on Spotify, Last.fm or some other online service. Maybe you have a band who tours small towns and mostly play on bars and don&#8217;t sell any CD:s. Well – either way, this article is for you.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">I take examples from the Swedish electronic artist Pingo® who recently released an album directly on Spotify, through the online label SouthPole Radio. With no budget at all, the name is out there and sales and streams are made. This is how you can copy that promotion plan and do the same thing yourself with your band, your artist, your music.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">If you want to release your music on Spotify, please read my article ”How to get your music on Spotify – and earn money on it!”. Then head back to this text and find out how to start promoting!</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Last.fm is a great place for an artist to write more about himself, push the music to friends and start a fan-base. MySpace is today also a very good artist platform. However, both of them lack a lot, specifically in technology, since both of the websites are a bit old fashioned and – especially MySpace – is a slow and heavy site with too much scripts and bad design. However, since the sites are used by so much people, they are still two sites that an artist should sign up on.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">After adding your artist page to MySpace and Last.fm it&#8217;s time to create your own website. If you don&#8217;t already have one (you should!), then find a good webhost (I suggest HostGator, since it&#8217;s cheap and have very good service in different languages) where you easily can install a Wordpress blog. Hostgator (and many other hosts) have the cPanel. cPanel is an add-on many hosts have where you easily can install several different scripts and functions for your website. Wordpress – the blogging script – is one of these.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Before you buy hosting, however, you need a domain name. You can buy that online on any domain registrating company (I usually use GoDaddy). Choose a name that is as close to your artist&#8217;s or label&#8217;s name as possible. Try to go for the .com domain, but if that is not accessable, you can go for anything – if you have your band residing in any other country than USA, you should of course go for that country&#8217;s localized top domain.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Hosting and domain name is the only costs in this. The hosting is around $5 per month, and the domain name is approximalty $10 for a whole year.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">When you have linked your domain with your hosting, head into the cPanel and do the easy installment of the Wordpress blog. After that, head into the Wordpress admin panel and choose a theme that fits your artist or label design. Now you have your own place on the &#8216;net and now the real business starts.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Use Twitter. Create an account if you don&#8217;t have one, and see to it that the Wordpress theme you are using also can handle a Twitter ”widget”. Installing such a widget in Wordpress makes your latest twitter end up directly on your website.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">In Last.fm link your feed (the rss-link from your Wordpress site) to the site. You can add this in the Music Manager on Last.fm.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Now sign up for a YouTube account. Make a video. You can make any video you like to one of your tunes using a regular video- or digital camera. Either just film yourself singing, have a friend film you live or do a stop-motion animation (as<a href="http://www.southpoleradio.com"> Pingo</a>® did) or anything else you can think of! There are lots free software out there that can help you with the editing and creation of your video.</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Upload the video to your YouTube account and use the embedd link on your Wordpress blog. Write a news post about it, and see the news post end up on Last.fm too!</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">Now use your own network to promote your website. The nice thing with all this is that you now can sell your music as downloadable mp3&#8217;s via Last.fm, get payed for it, get payed for streams via Spotify – but only have to take care of two things: your news posts on your website and your small twitters via Twitter. Everything else is updating itself!</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">So next time you are on tour – create a banner that has your website&#8217;s domain name on it. Spread the word of your domain name to your friend. Make stickers and put on your car. Spread that domain name any way you can!</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">The beauty in this is that you don&#8217;t have to spread your Twitter (since that feed is visible on your website, people may sign up to your Twitter account when they have found your website), you don&#8217;t have to spread your MySpace, Last.fm or Spotify links (which all can be a bit weird to send out to people anyway).</p>
<p style="margin-bottom: 0cm">So with a little time, only a few bucks and some tweaking – you can end up selling your tunes for your unknown band in no time, with just a single domain name to spread and a lot of sites promoting your music.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Britain is obsessed with Twitter&#8230;starting life in 2006 as a research project at US podcasting company Odeo the site has replaced Facebook as the social networking tool du jour letting users fire off missives of (“tweets&#8221;) of no more than 140 characters. Many rich, famous celebrities have embraced Twitter &#8211; Stephen Fry, I believe, is the 2nd most prolific tweeter in the world. And professionals in the interim management world aren’t far behind.</p>
<p>Lastminute.com founder Brent Hoberman described it as &#8220;a fascinating zeitgeist tool. It&#8217;s an excellent way of understanding trends, seeing what people are talking about and what&#8217;s firing their imaginations. It also feeds into our celebrity culture; the nosiness that makes us human. There is always someone out there having a better time than you and you want a bit of it. &#8221;</p>
<p>Brent is not alone; Barack Obama has been at it for ages&#8230;</p>
<p>Right now it is the place to be, it&#8217;s got the PR and the momentum but it does not have the revenue model at present and it&#8217;s purely venture capital funded.</p>
<p>To the uninitiated, messages are known as tweets and people who read your messages are called followers. Then there is the particular Twitter culture and mode of behaviour: sociability is enhanced by retweeting messages you find illuminating by rebroadcasting them to your followers. Among hardcore users, gratuitous self-promotion is frowned upon.</p>
<p>Twitter has stumbled upon a formula that a whole generation of internet start ups has been searching for: a way for people to connect with friends, express themselves and find information that stands a chance of one day becoming as popular as other mass online trends such as blogging and social networking.</p>
<p>Three years old, the Silicon Valley company only has 29 employees whilst the basic service will remain free, business users as on LinkedIn may be charged for extra functions. Meanwhile there is a viral network effect which is giving it great growth. The Twitter phenomenon has much to do with the fundamental simplicity of the idea. Operating at a juncture of blogging, texting and social networking, the service defies easy categorisation. &#8220;Because it is undergoing such rapid evolution, it&#8217;s hard to slap a label on it&#8221; says Peter Fenton a partner at Benchmark Capital, who has joined Twitter&#8217;s board.</p>
<p>Businesses have been keen to tap into a rapidly growing network like Twitter. The fact that users can choose which messages they want to receive could open the way to a new &#8220;opt-in&#8221; marketing says Bob Pearson of Dell. The computer maker for instance, issues a stream of tweets about new discounts on its products.</p>
<p>In summary Twitter&#8217;s six secrets of online success:</p>

<li>Immediacy: Real-time flow of comments and adaptability to mobile handsets makes it more immediate than blogging</li>
<li>Brevity: Limiting messages to 140 characters makes it easier to produce and easier to digest</li>
<li>&#8216;Pull&#8217; not &#8216;push&#8217;: The ability of users to choose whose tweets they follow makes it less random than email</li>
<li>Searchability: Messages can be searched, making the content more accessible than the comments on a social network</li>
<li>Mixing the public and the personal: A user&#8217;s personal contacts are on an equal footing with public figures.</li>
<li>&#8216;Retweeting&#8217;: By copying and retransmitting messages, users can turn the network into a giant echo chamber.</li>

<li>Twitter has been used very effectively to raise money for Comic Relief, after the Twestival and the current hitchhike of Twitchhiker, the TwitterTitters have compiled new book of comedy all this raising well deserved funds for Comic Relief.</li>
<li>On the commercial side-a US based IT company has developed a network of sensors that measure the amount of moisture in the soil and compares it to the optimum moisture level. This data is sent to a local network. The data is then turned into a text or Twitter message, to tell you when you need to water your plants. So how cool it is that your plants can now Twitter you to tell you they are thirsty!</li>

In this article I will give you a simple guide on how to set up and successfully manage a Twitter account for your business.</p>
<h3>Give your followers value</h3>
<p>Before you even set up a Twitter account, you must plan a campaign and set goals for what you want to achieve. What is the purpose of your profile and what will your customers gain? If you were a customer what would benefit you? If you wouldn’t want to follow the updates then most probably neither would your customers.</p>
<p>Keep your profile updated with regular tweets, but only if they are useful to your followers. You don’t want to tweet useless updates like “I am hungry” which nobody is interested in. Tweet links to blog posts, discounts, news stories and anything else your customers may find interesting. Once you find a topic that brings in a lot of followers or sparks discussion you can expand on this and even write a follow-up blog post.</p>
<p>Don’t over-tweet and clog up your followers’ profiles because they will most probably be following other companies too. There’s a danger that your tweets may get in the way of other updates and people will just stop following you.</p>
<h3>Etiquette</h3>
<p>Twitter is not an instant messenger. It is designed to communicate to thousands of users at once. Try to make your tweets appeal to all followers and don’t get stuck in two way conversations. Re-tweet (RT) other relevant tweets which your followers will find valuable. Reply to your followers and find related queries other users might have that you can answer.</p>
<h3>Promotion</h3>
<p>Use your corporate branding to style your profile so users trust you and don’t think it’s a fake profile. Find other users which are related to your industry and follow them. They might return the favour and in turn pass on their followers.</p>
<p>Research what other people are saying before posting a tweet. Use Twitter Search to see what key phrases are being used and try to include them in your tweets. Use <a title="Find out how to use hash tags" href="http://www.searchenginejournal.com/twitter-hashtags/9419/" target="_blank">hash tags</a> before and after your key phrases. Tweet at peak times so your tweets don’t get lost. Peak times can vary depending on your industry and country but the majority of users go on just before and after work.</p>
<p>If you have a company blog or website, add a link or feed so that people can see your latest Tweets. Add a link in your email signature.</p>
<h3>Tweets</h3>
<p>When it comes to writing a tweet, don’t just write “Here is a great article <a title="Find out about Photoshop anti-aliasing" href="http://bit.ly/crDzc">http://bit.ly/crDzc</a>.” Spark conversation by asking a question e.g. “None, sharp, crisp, strong or smooth? Which photoshop anti-aliasing works best? You decide… #photoshop #design <a title="Find out about Photoshop anti-aliasing" href="http://bit.ly/crDzc">http://bit.ly/crDzc</a>.”</p>
<p>Here I have asked a question which will entice followers and hopefully get a response and create even more exposure. I have also added key phrases so it will be picked up in Twitter Search.</p>
<p>Getting the most out of Twitter is a matter of trial and error.  You can only find out what works for your company by trying different approaches.</p>

By giving each page a rating based on the page’s quality and relevancy, search engines can begin to differentiate between quality sites and inferior sites. Through SEO practices, a company will improve their overall quality and thus improve their ranking in search engines. Since search engines want to give the best product possible to searchers, rankings assure users that they are getting the best search possible.</p>
<p>For each of the major search engines like Google, Yahoo!, or MSN Search, the results are displayed based on page rank. The best sites that most relate to the keywords used will appear at the top of the ranking, while sites that use those keywords less or aren’t as related to those keywords will appear further down in the rankings. Almost every search engine will then display results for the user from most to least relevant.</p>
<p>The search engine’s rank of pages takes several characteristics into consideration. If a user types “classic cars” into a search engine, they’ll get results that are ranked in order of relevancy to the topic. The first site listed on the search engine results page will relate closely to the words “classic cars,” and may be a company that sells classic cars, an article about various types of classic cars, or other information that’s highly relevant to those keywords. There may be millions of results given, but the search engine only displays about ten listings per page. The results on top are the most relevant, and relevancy to the keyword shrinks further down on the listings.</p>
<p>Since search engines typically display only about 10 listings at a time and the vast majority of users will only click on the first page of results page, ranking is very competitive. With some search terms, the user may end up with millions of sites in their results. Of those people who only click on the first page of a search engine results page, the majority of those users will only click on the first three results. Competition for the top three spots on Google for a popular search term can turn fierce. Some companies will pay exorbitant sums of money and time just to be in the top three listings of popular search terms like “jobs,” “cars,” or “dating.”</p>
<p>The goal of SEO practitioners is to increase page rank. This ranking is most critical because this ranking indicates where a particular page will appear on a search engine and thus how many visitors that page can expect. There’s no guaranteed or surefire way to directly increase page ranking, though. Because there are so many factors, and because these factors are often kept secret by the search engines, SEO practitioners may find themselves frustrated when trying to achieve better ranking. However, there are still many surefire techniques that will help increase a site’s page rank and maintain that high ranking as time goes on.</p>

<p>According to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act, 2006, an organization will be called Micro Business, if the investment doesn’t exceed more than 25 lakh rupee in Manufacturing sector and 10 lakh rupee in Service sector.</p>
<p>All over India around 13 million Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) have been registered with the State/UT Directorates of Industries. These MSEs form in to clusters in order to boost their competitiveness and to withstand the competition from large enterprises. India has over 400 SME clusters and about 2000 artisan clusters. Utter Pradesh is the state having more number (4,02,606) of MSEs and Sikkim and Lakshadweep are the states having less number (349 &amp; 76 respectively) of MSEs.</p>
<p>These MSEs produce more than 6000 products ranging from simple consumer goods to the manufacture of many sophisticated and precision products like electronics control systems, micro wave components, electro medical equipments, etc.</p>
<p><strong>Contributions of MSEs in India</strong></p>
<p>India has a vibrant Micro and Small Enterprise (MSEs) sector with a total size of US$140 billion, are the driving force for the long-term growth of the Indian economy that plays an important role in sustaining the economic growth. According to the World Bank Institution, MSE in India contribute 45% to employment, 40% to GDP and 35% to exports.</p>
<p>Around 95% of the MSEs are industrial units and its present contribution to Industrial production is 39% and is expected to go up to 45%. MSEs share to national exports currently is 33%, which will increase to over 40% in next five years. MSEs providing employment to 322.28 lakh persons in 2007-08 and is projected to provide employment to 391.73 lakh persons in 2011-12.</p>
<p><strong>Financial source for MSEs</strong><br />
The government has identified three important areas for increasing competitiveness in this sector: technology including quality, skills development, and finance. Of the three, technology and quality were to be focused, more than 15,000 MSEs have been assisted in obtaining ISO certification. The government is focusing on various schemes and policies for the smooth flow of the business.</p>
<p>MSEs get the financial support in the form of Incremental credits from Public sector banks, from Pvt./Foreign Banks and SIDBI/SFCs and from Emerging Sources (VC-PE, ECB, Factoring, etc.) Public sector banks are the major source in crediting the MSEs (around <strong>58%</strong>). The government is taking measures to provide <strong>credit support</strong> and <strong>fiscal support</strong> and the credit flow has more than doubled from Rs.67,000 crore to Rs.1,48,000 crore since 2005.</p>
<p>In spite of the support given by the Government MSEs as a whole has been lagging behind in terms of growth and productivity. According to the results of the Third All India Census of MSEs with reference year 2001-02, the number of sick units during 2004-05 and 2005-06 were 1,38,042 and 1,26,824. The number of sick MSEs  high in the states of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Bihar. The main constraints, which the SME still face not only recession but also credit crunch and variety of regulations from Center, states and local governments. The private banks and financial institutions are still neglecting this sector.</p>
