This History, Present, And Future Of GIS
This is the era of fast technological advancements. Considering the growth of technologies in different sectors, the communication field is the fastest growing one. With the introduction of the internet, International borders are not even speed bumps today. Personal communication and business transactions are made available at the fingertips. GIS is one such fast growing technology of the modern world. Though GIS technology is not known in many parts of the world, this technology is spreading like a wildfire now because of it’s usefulness in promising a better tomorrow. This article is all about the history and future focus of the Geographic Information systems.
The History
The first technological GIS was developed by the early 1960s. Though the fully operational, computerized GIS systems were developed in 1962, the concept behind this technology was in practice 15,500 years ago (According to Historical Research). Though no sophisticated computer system were in use during that period, the hunters of the historical age used to paint the pictures of the hunted animals on the walls of the caves to find the migration routes of the animals. This concept has seen many modifications and advancements and is popularly known today as the GIS systems.
The Present
You will be well aware that we are living in the age of online communication through Internet. The GIS software is no exemption to the online revolution. With the entry of Geographical information systems online, they are referred as Web GIS today. This has found it’s place in many businesses and organization around this planet and it has become one of the fastest growing technologies online. You will be well aware of the fact that integrating the traditional GIS is a difficult complicated task. If you come up with any errors in the traditional systems, then you will be in need of expert technicians to fix the issue. In the case of the web GIS software, it easily integrates with the existing browser systems. Moreover, the web software is very easy to maintain when compared to the traditional ones.
The Future
The future of any technology is unpredictable. Some technologies may fail with time while others rapidly grow and evolve into new technologies. GIS falls under the latter. People have now started use the mapping tools such as Google maps extensively. Many of the businesses consider these mapping tools as the great opportunities to promote their business online. If you wish to get your business know to the whole world, it is always good to get the business listed in the online maps. Considering all these facts, the GIS will have enormous growth in the near future.
