What if you Built a Website, and Nobody Came?

Most webmasters will agree with one thing. It is fairly easy to build a website, but it is hard to bring in a steady stream of visitors that are interested in the subject of your site. It is hard to get noticed when there are thousands of other websites on your topics, and millions, if not billions, of other websites out there on the internet!

So how do you get noticed? You need other websites, that already have traffic (internet visitors) visiting, to promote you. One very effective way to do this is by article marketing. Here are some things that effective article writing can accomplish for you.

• Article directory backlinks to your website. Article directories will allow you to link back (backlink) to your website in some way. Some of the bigger article websites have strict rules about using a resource box, and they limit the way you can link. But the popularity of those larger directories may make it worth it to stick to their strict rules. Some smaller directories will have looser rules, especially when they are getting off the group. You can get in early and take advantage of these more “submitter friendly” guidelines! Either way, you should be able to pick up some valuable backlinks!
• Viral Marketing – Other websites, ezines, and rss feeds will pick up exciting, informative, and well written articles. You do not need to be a professional writer, but you do need to make your article informative and interesting. You also should check your spelling, etc., so it looks like an adult, native speaker wrote it.
• People actually read these articles! Yes, I know, we forget about humans when we are writing for backlinks, but I do get people clicking through the links on my articles every day!

I find that article marketing is very effective, but one article will not make your website popular. You need to keep your efforts going, and to fine tune your work so you get the desired results. Do not complain when one article does not work. Try submitting a dozen over the period of a couple weeks, and then evaluate your results. In the end, if you do article marketing, you will probably have hundreds of articles on various article websites, and hopefully, spread all over the net!
