Have you ever turned to a local business directory to find a product or service you need? I know that I have looked up dentists, restuarants, tire shops, etc. on local directories and search engines. Sometimes these are local directories provided by a major search engine like Google, Yahoo, or Bing. Or sometimes these are smaller local directories that only list businesses from my town.
Local search is becoming a very popular way for businesses to get found online. Even the smallest towns seem to have local directories now. And larger cities may even have neighborhood directories. Even if you do not think that your business has much to do with the internet, you should be visible online. It is important to meet your customers where they are looking for things. These days, that is online!

Niche directories are another good way to promote your business. People tend to follow them for suggestions about specific types of local businesses. Find Insurance Pros and Pro Agent Web are 2 examples of these for insurance agents.
Potential customers or clients can find your business information online. Then they can call, email, or even drive to your store or office. It helps to have a website so consumers can get more information about your business. But a business listing will still be valuable even if you have not made a website yet.
