In the current economic climate, it may be that businesses both large and small encounter problems with workload.  An increased workload could mean employing more staff which is a long term commitment for the company taking on a permanent employment contract. This does not give flexibility to the company, in that if work levels decrease they are committed to retaining staff.  

However, the solution to this problem is to outsource.  With the advent of the internet and email, virtual assistance is a growing market.  By hiring a virtual assistant (VA), work can be outsourced on a more flexible basis.  The VA can complete the same duties that a permanent member of staff would normally complete and more.  The VA often charges at an hourly rate or arranges a general retainer for more frequent, ongoing projects.  By hiring a VA, this means that the contract is flexible for the client and in addition further money is saved as there is no need for use of more office space and overheads as work is completed at their own premises.  The client is also advantaged as they are able to offer a higher level of service at a lower cost to them, giving them satisfied customers.  This in turn leads to a higher rate of referral for their service and ultimately higher revenue.  

Outsourcing can often be very useful to the smaller business starting out.  The young company may not have adequate funding to employ permanent staff until sufficient revenue has been secured.  The answer to this of course, would be to outsource to a VA to assist, saving them money and time.  The aim of the small business is to ensure complete client satisfaction to gain referrals, especially at the outset to get the new company established.

VAs can also assist in personal administrative tasks.  Many individuals may have secretarial or administrative tasks to complete, however, they may not have enough time to complete or it may be that they are not computer literate enough to complete the task.  This is where the VA can step in.  The VA can deal with the tasks in hand, leaving the personal client with more time to focus on quality time with their family or to focus on other aspects of their business. 

Ultimately, to outsource can be the solution to many business problems by hiring a VA on a long or short term basis to suit the needs of the company or individual.
